The Bharat Raj Upreti Memorial Foundation, in collaboration with Pioneer Law Associates, organized the 5th Bharat Raj Upreti Memorial Foundation Moot Court Competition and Conference, 2024 on the 5th and 6th of July 2024. This edition of the Moot Court Competition was based on court settlement of shareholder dispute surrounding share forfeiture, reserved matter rights and dispute settlement mechanism under a shareholders’ agreement.
The first day of the event covered preliminary and semi-final rounds of the Moot Court Competition held at National Law College. The Moot Court Competition received the highest number of participating teams this year. 13 law schools from across Nepal participated in the preliminary rounds, which included Far Western University, Kanchanpur; National Law College, Lalitpur; Tulsipur Metro College, Dang; Gandaki University, Pokhara; Prithivi Narayan Campus, Pokhara; Chakrabarti Habi Education Academy, Kathmandu; Kathmandu University School of Law, Dhulikhel; Nepal Law Campus, Kathmandu; Kathmandu School of Law, Bhaktapur; Rajarshi Janak University, Janakpur; Khwopa Law College, Bhaktapur; Mid-West University, Birendranagar; and Kailali Multiple Campus, Dhangadi.
The second day of the event was hosted at Bougainvilla Events, Tripureshwor. Kathmandu School of Law (KSL) and Kathmandu University School of Law (KUSL) reached the finals of the Moot Court Competition, which was judged by the former Justice of the Supreme Court Mr. Anil Kumar Sinha and the sitting Judge of the Patan High Court Mrs. Anju Upreti Dhakal. KUSL were the winning team and KSL stood as the runner-up. The best speaker was Mr. Gunesh Kumar Jha from National Law College, and the best legal opinion was also awarded to National Law College.
The final round was then followed by a panel discussion on the issues revolving the moot problem. The panelists for the discussion session were Mr. Anil Kumar Sinha, former Justice of the Supreme Court of Nepal, and Mr. Anjan Neupane, Partner, Neupane Law Associates. The panel discussion was moderated by Mr. Anup Raj Upreti, Managing Partner, Pioneer Law Associates. The discussion program also consisted of a questions and answers segment, which saw active participation from students and legal professionals.
